ABOUT US

Bedok Youth Society for the Disabled (BYSD) formerly known as Bedok Youth Society is a non-profit organisation that exists to champion disability and youth causes.

Our Vision

An inclusive society where people with disabilites and youth are able to live their lives to the fullest potential through the spirit of vibrancy and compassion.

Our Mission

To be an essential disability-focused and important youth attraction in the community by providing holistic services and inclusive activities for self-transformation and community synergy.

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

BYSD's unique approach stems from our belief that everyone - able-bodied, disabled, wise, young or otherwise has the potential to make a difference in the lives of others and that everyone should have the opportunity to achieve their goals and dreams.

It is only through the sharing of experiences and energies, that we are transformed and become a people of great character and values.

Furthermore, Youths naturally have a spirit of optimism and energy that should be harnessed. When Youths feel connected and engaged in a community, they develop the crucial skills required to achieve great success in their lives and consequently our nation.

BYSD is led by President, Mdm Aisah bte Ibrahim who has been an active member since the 70's. She is also a committee member of Bowling Association for the Disabled (Singapore) and a long-time member of Handicaps Welfare Association.

Being a polio survivor, Mdm Aisah leads a very active and sporty lifestyle with the aid of a prosthetic leg, participating and representing in bowling competitions locally and overseas.

Mdm Aisah is supported by Mr Hazizi Abu Bakar, who is BYSD's Honorary General Secretary. Mr Hazizi is also a long-time member of BYSD and has served as its Hon. Gen. Secretary for many terms. Mr Hazizi is an expert in logistics field and was a former Managing Director of his own firm.

BYSD's committee members is comprised of people from all walks of life; professionals such as retired police officers and teachers and individuals with disabilities.

Bedok Youth Society (Persatuan Belia Bedok) was founded on 21st March 1968 as a non-profit voluntary organisation which offered youths in the community sports and cultural activities targeted towards social cohesion and community bonding. In 2008, sensing a need in the community; BYS strategically expanded its target group to offer services for disabled members of the community focused on educational, social, welfare, sports and recreational activities.

After a series of strategic reviews, the Management Committee expressed a desire to transform the Organisation. In Feb 2012, BYS moved to a new rental office at the void deck of Blk 10 Chai Chee Road and changed its name to Bedok Youth Society for the Disabled (BYSD) in reflection of its expanded focus.
